When space is at a premium in your bar or around your counter top you will want to either get a backless adjustable height stool to take up the least amount of space or you will go for a folding counter stool. A folding counter stool will collapse the back rest the seat and the legs into a single thin plane and so flattened will become highly useful for stowing away and for transporting it from room to room and even to an entirely new place altogether such as a second home.
If you decide to cover your bar stool with leather keep in mind that leather is a natural product made from the skin of cattle. As such there will be variations in color and texture just as there are variations in texture and color of your own skin. Generally the more expensive the leather the more of these imperfections you will see. The "Cheaper" leathers used in furniture are often "corrected" leather. Corrected leathers are treated sanded and dyed to remove these imperfections. Many are even stamped with a simulated grain pattern. Corrected leathers will most often match very closely from one piece to the next and may actually look more artificial than many vinyls! Consider it a unique trait if you happen to get a barbed wire scratch mark or even a "brand" mark. Many people pay extra for these imperfections that prove the authenticity of their leather.
Bar Stools - The new generation: Today with the recognition of many interior design styles and themes bar stools have been manufactured to complement the choices for public rooms. Some go for the old-school gentleman`s club feel while others like the sleek and chic chrome and leather styling. There are some that appropriate Oriental design elements and incorporate bamboo in motif or material form while some turn to wood and etching in the tradition of Old Europe. There are even some that use molded plastic and brushed steel for that futuristic streamlined ambiance. And that`s not even to mention the various accouterments used in various theme bars all over the world. The seat offers a tempting canvas for stylized lettering or graphics including the ever popular Harley Davidson and Jack Daniels for instance while chair sides would prove good grounds for scrolling artwork. Of course for the older establishments that wish to retain an Old World charm wicker stools are light easily replaceable and totally in character. Modern padded seats have to regularly have their cushions replaced what with the constant traffic of derrieres both tight and not so. Of course just because they are "bar" stools does not mean they are only found in bars and home bars have become increasingly popular. Man caves also tend to have their fair share of bar stools for a movie and drinks night in or just a good old knees up style party. Other house may also have a few of these seats around a kitchen counter or similar feature.
Wooden western bar stools would then be upholstered with that cowhide leather using metal round top tacks which would provide a look of a western bar stool strongly resembling a horse saddle. Sometimes a saddle horn would be added to one side of the bar seat to complete such horse saddle bar stool.
Another thing these western saddle bar or counter stools have in common is that just like the horse saddles they never feature a back rest or the arm rests.
Wood Bar Stools: Wood bar stools are typically offered in a few stains or painted colors. Look for chip-resistant finishes and/or stains which are sealed to protect the wood as well as the underlying finish. Look for metal protectors on the foot-rest as any painted or finished wood subject to the wear and tear of people`s feet will wear through over time. Many manufacturers intentionally distress their finishes to provide a used or worn look. Some more expensive wood bar stools feature rich multi-step finishes that can be custom matched to you particular needs.
